KJSEA: Boy Who Turned To Garbage Picking Joins Alliance Boys After Being Helped

  • John Mwangi, a 16-year-old boy who turned to work as a garbage collector has finally joined Alliance Boys High School after getting help from Kenyans through the internet
  • Mwangi was proud to score 64 out of 72 in KJSEA, which showed his great academic ability
  • Financial challenges delayed his reporting to the prestigious national school located in the heart of Kiambu county, until Kenyans came to his aid.

Nairobi, Kenya: John Mwangi, a 16-year-old boy from Mukuru kwa Njenga, is now safe at Alliance Boys High School, just seven hours after his story went viral and Kenyans started helping him.

Mwangi scored 64 out of 72 in the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA), which earned him admission to Alliance Boys High School.

Although he achieved very high standards, he had not yet come to school more than a week after the start of Class 10 admissions due to lack of funds, and decided to work in a garbage dump to collect tuition money.

How was John Mwangi helped?

“From the waste bin in Mukuru to Alliance High School in less than seven hours. Team Sisi Kwa Sisi we will succeed,” he cheered Eric Omondi.

Osiany sponsors the boy he walked to Kanga High

In other news, politician David Osiany helped Edwin Mogaka, who walked to Kanga High School, to be admitted to the school.

The boy was determined to seek education despite financial challenges, while his foster mother was single who was also responsible for raising another child with special needs.

The joint efforts of the principal of the primary school Mogaka attended, the principal of Kanga High School, along with Osiany and his friend Charles Mogaka helped the young man a lot.
