The Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, has spoken privately about his death.

The speaker broke his silence following the spread of information on the internet claiming that he had died.
Where is Speaker Moses Wetang’ula?
Wetang’ula had left the country to attend the Commonwealth Speakers and Chief Officers Conference (CSPOC) in New Delhi, India.
During the visit, the speaker held several meetings with various Indian leaders, including the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla; Shri Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha (Supreme Parliament of India); Shri Utpal Kumar Singh, General Secretary of People’s Congress; and Shri Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament.

He revealed that their talks were about strategies to further strengthen the existing relationship between Kenya and India, which is based on the shared colonial history.
Wetang’ula said they agreed to support efforts aimed at establishing parliamentary groups that will promote close cooperation between the two parliaments.
“Furthermore, I encouraged the representatives of the Parliament to consider reviving the training for parliamentary staff on drafting laws, which was suspended following the outbreak of COVID-19,” he said.
Amidst the concern, he responded indirectly by saying that he has returned to the country and is already continuing his duties.
“I’m still alive, I’m still strong, I’m still at work. I’m continuing my parliamentary duties here in Naivasha,” he said while sharing a video to confirm his whereabouts.

Meanwhile, in India, Wetang’ula visited the First Member of Parliament, Ferdinand Wanyonyi, who is currently hospitalized in Kerala.

He informed the country that Wanyonyi is doing well and is responding to treatment and rehabilitation exercises under the close supervision of doctors.
He noted that many Kenyans prefer Kerala for specialist treatment and said that when he returns to Nairobi, he will collaborate with relevant parliamentary committees to explore the possibility of cooperation in professional training, knowledge transfer, research and formal referral systems to strengthen the capacity of health services in Kenya.
