A routine school admission turned into an unexpected moment after a Kenyan mother unknowingly met the man who abandoned her and their infant son many years ago.

The woman, who was a mother while still in the first form, was surprised to find her ex-boyfriend sitting on the other side of the table as the head teacher of the school.

An emotional encounter with Achieng

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Achieng said he did not know that the father of his daughter who left him had an important position in the institution.

Having raised the child with the help of her aunt after her father disappeared, she entered school with nothing but hope and a small fee, she met a man she had not seen or heard from since their child was one month old.

“I can’t remember the last time I saw him, heard about him or even thought he was still alive,” he remembered.

“And suddenly, there he was, sitting directly on the other side of the table.”

His daughter, who grew up not knowing the identity of her father, sat quietly, not knowing why the adults were frozen in surprise.

Father and child hugged his daughter

What followed, the mother says, was not an argument but a strange moment of disbelief and silent emotion.

“He’s lucky I’m a quiet soul,” he said with a laugh.

“Otherwise I would have caused a riot in the school.”

But the awkward tension quickly began to melt into understanding. The headmaster hugged his daughter, apologized for the years he had missed, and immediately paid the school fees in full.

He also promised to cover everything the girl still needs, from shopping to school needs.

For the little girl, the sudden realization brought a mixture of excitement and wonder.

“She whispered that she felt like a princess,” his mother said.

“I asked him, ‘You mean the queen?’ and we all laughed.”

How the reunion will benefit Achieng’s daughter

Then the headmaster took them out of his office, and the daughter even took a photo of her parents reunited, a moment the mother described as “consolation”.

Now, the child is settled in the same school run by his father, and his mother says his anxiety disappeared almost overnight.

“No more stress about fees, purchases or pocket money,” he said.

“No one will abuse her. She will be respected as the headmaster’s daughter. She will enjoy a few privileges here and there.”

The mother, who was once unsure how she could educate her son, says she is now filled with gratitude, not for opportunities or privileges, but for reconciliation she never thought possible.

“Surely if God is on our side, who is above us?” he said, smiling.

Elsewhere, a father from Mumias is said to have disappeared, leaving his son stranded, when he got information about the school fees required for his son to be admitted to the school.
