Kimani Wamatang’i Boycott William Ruto’s Event, Waiguru Attends

  • Sakaja and Ole Lenku were there and talked, but Wamatang’i did not show up, which caused concern

NYOTA is a Youth Development program run by the World Bank that aims to reduce the problem of unemployment among young people by providing them with training and financial support to start their own businesses.

The reason for not attending events for Wamatang’i

The president has been traveling around the country to lead events to hit the jacks for the youth, often accompanied by governors from the beneficiary counties.

On Monday, January 19, it was the turn of the youth from Nairobi, Kajiado, and Kiambu to receive financial assistance.

The governors of the three counties were expected to attend, as was the case at other events.

While the Governor of Nairobi Johnson and Kajiado’s colleague Joseph Ole Lenku were in attendance, Wamatang’i was not present in public.

Governor of Kirinyaga, Anne Waiguruattended and spoke in his capacity as the former chairman of the Council of Governors, filling the gap left by Wamatang’i’s absence.

The event took place just one week after the Kiambu Governor’s commercial establishment near Nyayo Stadium was cleared overnight.

The demolition was carried out by the officials of the Railway Corporation in cooperation with the police.

According to the government organization, the move was necessary to make way for the construction of the railway to the Talanta Stadium, part of the preparations for the tournament. AFCON of 2027.

However, Wamatang’i accused the government of targeting him politically.

“How will this persecution against me end? What have I done to face all this? I need an answer. For the past three years, I have been politically persecuted – at work and at home, by individuals using the power of the government,” complained the governor.

Challenges that hit Wamatangi earlier

Wamatangi has been receiving abuse at events related to or led by the president.

During the funeral of his father Kikuyu Member of Parliament, Kimani Ichungw’ah, September 2025, he missed the opportunity to speak despite being the host governor.

On his behalf, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire spoke, which raised questions from the public.

In December, a group of women were hired to attack Wamatang’i during a church event attended by the president.

The governor has also been under investigation by officials of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) since last year.

On Thursday, his bank accounts were closed in connection with a corruption case worth KSh 880 million.

The accounts of his wife and children were also temporarily closed.
