Uganda General Election 2025: Yoweri Museveni Gets 7th Term With Over 7 Million Votes

President Yoweri Museveni has been declared the winner of the presidential election Uganda Thursday, January 15, extending his tenure of more than four decades and getting a seventh term in office.

The announcement, made on Saturday by the Electoral Commission, followed a tight vote held amid nationwide internet outages and logistical challenges that delayed voting in several areas.

According to the chairman of the Electoral Commission, Judge Simon Byabakama, Museveni got 7,944,772 votes, accounting for 71.61 percent of the valid votes cast.

His closest rival, Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine of the National Unity Forum (NUP), finished a distant second with 2,741,238 votes, representing 24.72 percent.

The results reaffirmed the rule of the long-serving president in a country where most voters have lived under one leader since 1986.

The election involved many voters, with official statistics showing that 21,649,067 Ugandans registered to vote in 50,739 polling stations across the country.
