Speaking at the party’s headquarters on Thursday, January 15, Jubilee’s general secretary, Jeremiah Kioni, said the party will conduct a free and fair selection for the candidates.
Kioni, indirectly targeting the DCP led by Rigathi Gachaguacriticized the new group for allegedly soliciting bribes from candidates for promises of tickets.
He said Jubilee will not accept unfair methods of choosing party candidates for various election positions.
“I hope to join others. Here, we don’t ask for money when you come. It’s not that we have money, but here we don’t use a payment center. Kenyans can see which party represents them better. Jubilee is a national party, and if you want to be a national leader, you join a national party,” he said.
At the same time, Kioni warned Gachagua for disrespecting the former President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Jubilee party.
In some of his earlier statements, Gachagua criticized Jubilee for dividing Mt Kenya, claiming it was one of the supposed projects of the President William Ruto.
He gave the party the name ‘red wheelbarrow’ trying to interfere with his efforts to face Ruto.
Kioni asked Gachagua to give Jubilee and its leader the respect they deserve.
“He protects Uhuru in one way and, in another, he calls him a red wheelbarrow. He protects the former President today and tomorrow, calling him a weak link. We don’t want double words. Give Uhuru the respect he deserves, and give Jubilee the respect he deserves,” he said.
This came a few months after Uhuru asked the Jubilee party to observe discipline, urging members to avoid political animosity when collaborating with other opponents.
Speaking during a meeting with grassroots leaders from Murang’a County, Uhuru stressed the importance of tolerance for political opponents and invited members to realize that democracy allows everyone to have their opinion without using violence.
As the leader of the party, Uhuru warned that he will expel any member who uses the loyalty of the party as a threshold for sarcasm, specifically condemning the attacks aimed at Gachagua.
He appointed Kioni to manage the conduct of the party, saying that it cannot be tolerated by members who claim to protect Jubilee while disrespecting others.
Uhuru said that Jubilee is not a party that supports sarcasm, every leader deserves respect, and the people should be left to decide.
He dismissed small fights as nonsense, insisted that leaders have the right to join the party they wanted, and warned them that he would not hesitate to expel anyone involved in such behavior.
