The police report indicated that a KWS officer shot a police officer and then turned the weapon on himself on Thursday, January 14.
Why did the KWS leader shoot the police officer?
Preliminary investigations show that two KPS officers, Stanley Karithi and Aftin Farah Ali, were traveling on a motorcycle from Nyango to Kilibasi when they met two KWS officers, also on a motorcycle, identified as Rangers John Ndichu and Eric Mugambi from the KWS Kilibasi camp.
According to official reports, KPS officers stopped a motorcycle carrying charcoal, driven by Salim Mwandoro.
A dispute arose after Officer Karithi questioned Ranger Ndichu about two goats that were allegedly sent to KPS officers during the holidays but have not been handed over.
During the disturbance, Ndichu seemed to have a grudge and opened fire, hitting Karithi four times in the chest, killing her on the spot.
How many people were injured by the KWS officer?
After that, he shot Ali and Mwandoro in the right ribs, and they were rushed to Voi and Mariakani hospitals for emergency treatment.
“Ranger John Ndichu appeared to be angry and opened fire using his gun. He shot PC Stanley Karithi four times in the chest, killing him on the spot. After that, he attacked PC Aftin Farah Ali once on the right ribs, seriously injuring him. The injured officer was taken to Voi hospital. Ranger also shot Salim Mwandoro on the right ribs, seriously injuring him. He was taken to Mariakani hospital,” said the police report.
The police report also stated that Ndichu shot himself under the chin and died instantly.
Officers arrived at the scene and seized two MK-7 owls owned by KWS officers.
