The Democratic Party for the People (DCP) revealed that the lawmaker had engineered his forced disappearance to avoid the court system.

Was George Koimburi kidnapped?

According to the party led by Rigathi GachaguaKoimburi lied about his capture, and when Gachagua realized that the saga was a fake event to attract sympathy, he became cautious around him.

The MP was looking into a series of land fraud cases and thus had to devise a way to evade the law, the DCP party said.

“Indeed, our party leader has been very careful after Koimburi humiliated him by lying to him that he had been abducted by the police a few months ago and discovered that he ‘kidnapped himself’ to avoid being arrested in land fraud cases,” the DCP said in a statement.

How Rigathi Gachagua dragged the government into the ‘kidnapping’ of Koimburi

Gachagua, along with allied politicians, led the charge against the state, claiming it was responsible for the kidnapping.

On May 25, 2025, Koimburi was discovered abandoned in a Jacaranda coffee plantation in Kibichoi, Kiambu County.

A video later emerged showing the MP, allegedly abducted outside a church in Kiambu, writhing in pain and looking sad.

He was found unconscious, wearing a torn and dust-stained blue suit, lying helpless on the ground.

The MP was rushed to Karen Hospital for treatment, where Gachagua and several DCP leaders visited him and accused the police of planning the incident.

Gachagua claimed that medical experts confirmed that the Juja Member of Parliament was professionally tortured, resulting in soft tissue injuries.

He further alleged that Koimburi was injected with a toxic chemical that rendered him unable to speak, forcing the MP to communicate in writing during their visit to the hospital.

The DCP leader noted that blood and urine samples were sent to private laboratories for analysis, even as the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) later concluded that the abduction was organized for political purposes.

How DCI exposed the Koimburi lie

Director of DCI Mohamed Amin criticized Koimburi for ignoring major security issues in pursuit of political popularity.

He noted that the last movement of the MP before he was discovered in the coffee plantation ruled out the possibility of actual kidnapping.

Amin revealed that detectives tracked down the hotel where Koimburi was staying overnight before being taken to the farm to prepare for the event.

He further claimed that the MP’s refusal to cooperate with the detectives indicated dubious motives.

Meanwhile, Koimburi’s colleagues in the National Assembly accused him of orchestrating his disappearance for political gain.

Suna East Member of Parliament, Junet Mohamed, claimed that the event was organized by Gachagua, with whom Koimburi had a relationship at the time.

Several MPs went further, demanding that the MP face charges.
