Despite resigning from the Ruto administration, the outspoken politician has remained active, sharing his views on various national issues.
Before resigning, he had spent at least 10 months serving as the chief economic adviser to the Ruto administration.
Why does Kuria support Ruto’s re-election for a second term?
During a press conference on Wednesday, January 14, Kuria explained that his support for Ruto is motivated by his long-term political ambitions rather than a sense of loyalty to the Kenya First government.
According to the former MP for Gatundu North, he plans to succeed Ruto after the completion of his two-term term.
The former minister explained that at that time, he would go around the country, seeking support for his presidential aspirations.
“I want to support William Ruto for one reason only, one reason. Call it selfish or personal; I do not deny that. It is because in 2032 I intend to run for the presidency. I will have six and a half years to prepare. I want to prepare slowly within the government, travel around Kenya for six years, and prepare so that I can stand in 2032. That is why I want someone who will be there for five more years,” he said.
He added that his political strategy is affected by the time he is in power, adding that having a new president would reduce his tactics.
“If you bring me someone who will stay for 10 years (two presidential terms), you will have finished me. I want Ruto to do another five years, finish, and leave, finish and leave. That is my own math. But at least I am saying something that you can understand,” he explained.

Why did Kuria criticize Gachagua’s methods?
Kuria also criticized the former vice president Rigathi Gachaguanoting that even Gachagua would face political obstacles in the future.
He expressed his disapproval of Gachagua’s frequent attacks on politicians who are not in line with his agenda, suggesting that such tactics could destroy opportunities for future leadership in Mount Kenya.
The speaking politician gave historical examples, referring to past presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and the late Mwai Kibaki, questioning what could have happened if regional politicians in the 1980s and 1990s had engaged in frequent political battles.

According to Kuria, such conflicts would prevent the region from producing two consecutive presidents.
He reminded Gachagua that his removal from power in 2024 as the second in command essentially prevented his future political plans.
“In 2032, even Rigathi Gachagua will not be able to run for the cow dipping chair because his removal from power is still standing. Tomorrow’s trip is planned today. I want to prepare for my tomorrow. If today has defeated you, don’t ruin my tomorrow,” he said.
Is Ruto planning to extend his stay at the White House?
As previously reported, a video resurfaced showing Ruto declaring his opposition to any attempts to amend the constitution.
The piece emerged shortly after the Nandi senator Samson Cherargei submit a bill in the Senate proposing to extend the term of the presidency from five to seven years.
Ruto said that his Kenya First government would fully oppose any such changes, adding that he would lead the fight against proposals aimed at benefiting individuals at the expense of the public.
