In a statement issued on Thursday, January 15, Gachagua said that the politician was not a member of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Was Koimburi a member of the DCP?
“Let it be clear that Hon. Koimburi has never been a member of the party and has never participated in any of the party’s activities. However, despite being a partner of the party’s leader, he has not followed the leader in any public activity for the past six months while giving various excuses,” DCP said.
Gachagua claimed that Koimburi had been hired by the President William Ruto to inform the DCP about the government’s payment to reduce the criminal charges facing the MP.
“His colleagues had doubts about his loyalty to the party after information emerged that he had been paid by William Ruto to investigate our movement in exchange for reducing 15 criminal charges related to land fraud, changing professional certificates, and raising personal cases,” party said.
Koimburi was also slightly satisfied with Gachagua by allowing his main opponent in the 2022 election to join the DCP before 2027.
“Koimburi expressed surprise and disgust that his opponent in the last general election, Mr. Aloise Kinyanjui, was allowed to join the DCP. He was more disappointed that the party leader had given Kinyanjui the opportunity to greet people at Kimbo Junction, Juja County, on Sunday, January 11 in the evening,” party said.
Why did George Koimburi return to William Ruto’s camp?
DCP secretary general, Hezron Obaga, said Koimburi threatened to return to Ruto’s camp if he was not given a direct guarantee of a ticket for the 2027 election.
However, Gachagua rejected Koimburi’s request; instead, he instructed him to prepare for the party contest scheduled for March 2027, which caused anger to the member of parliament.

“He asked Kinyanjui to be removed from the party and to be given a written guarantee that he will be given a direct ticket. He threatened to return to William Ruto’s camp if his conditions were not fulfilled. However, he respectfully forgave him, telling him that his request for a direct ticket cannot be fulfilled, as DCP is a democratic party, and all those who intend to carry the party’s flag for all positions will be given a chance in the party’s open and fair elections. The party leader also told Hon. Koimburi that although he appreciates the support of all those who voted against its abolition, it would be against democracy to suppress them from the party competition, as that would destroy the party that enjoys democracy,Obaga said.
