The political meeting on Wednesday, January 14, which seems to be of great importance, is considered as part of the party’s efforts to maintain its stability amid growing tension and to reunite with its traditional supporters.
Scheduled as a consultative meeting, the meeting comes at a difficult time for the Orange party, which has been dealing with leadership changes and divisions following the death of its long-time leader, Raila Odinga.

With the party now under the leadership of Oburu, the Kamukunji meeting is seen as a systematic and strategic step in defining the future of ODM.
Kamukunji Grounds has a great political significance for ODM supporters as it is an area that Raila often used to announce political events that were significant to Kenyan politics for decades.
By choosing this location, the party seems to be keen to revive the legacy of the former Prime Minister while charting a new path forward.
Details of the meeting were disclosed by Gabriel Oguda, a prominent political writer and key member of the committee overseeing the implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, a process closely related to ODM’s agreement with the President William Ruto.
Oguda said that the meeting will start at 8pm and urged supporters to attend in large numbers and as early as possible:
“If you are an ODM member living in or around Nairobi, Party Leader Sen. (Dr) Oburu Oginga tomorrow (Wednesday 14/01/2026) will have a counseling session with members and supporters at Kamkunji Grounds, Kibra Ward. We start at eight o’clock, but you can arrive earlier; because we cannot promise a seat after many supporters start entering in the morning. Tomorrow, they will finally believe,” said Oguda.

Feelings of Kenyans about the Kamukunji meeting of Oburu
Michael Lewis: “Because politicians think they are gods in this country, they have made Kenyans bend over backwards to get bursaries which are government money, so when the call from Oguda to tell people to sleep in the camp all night while sleeping in mosque camps shows how politicians have made Kenyans to be worthless idiots before political figures. The sea of ‘animality and belly’ reminds Kenyans of the empty, inhuman, the weak will continue to be poor as long as support ODM.”
Nyasimi Mr. Osebe: “For the first time ODM is gathering a crowd of supporters for its leader’s rally. Things are changing fast. The only thing going on is change.”
Felo Mchelsea: “There was never a day when I saw my father using bloggers like you to gather a crowd, what are you talking about… Without Sifuna or Babu, the stadium will remain empty unless they bring in buses.”
Brian Wanjala:Sifuna and Babu who are more appreciated should attend so that eventually they will not believe.”

DS Bushuru: “Raila did not announce his meetings or ask people to attend. It was natural and obvious love. This shows the difference between Odinga the father of the mystery and Odinga the father of Jaoko, of the gourds and sellers.”
Gilbert Robert Okoth: “Unless you recognize Babu and Sifuna, you will be headed for an empty field.”
ODM party plan for 2027
The meeting is held during efforts to reduce internal divisions, listen to the complaints of ordinary citizens, and maintain unity when the holes in the party are clearly visible.
Just two days before the Kamukunji meeting, Oburu chaired an important meeting of the Central Management Committee of ODM Vipingo, Kilifi County, on Monday, January 12.
The meeting focused on the party’s preparations for the 2027 General Elections and issued a strategic resolution on ODM’s political plan.
Reading the committee’s decisions, Oburu said the party cannot delay preparations to participate in next year’s elections, but also to form the next government.
An important outcome of the Kilifi meeting was to initiate formal talks with other political parties with a view to a possible alliance, and the Central Management Committee appointed Oburu to lead these talks, starting with President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
After the meeting, Oburu also addressed concerns over the non-attendance of some top party leaders, which fueled rumors of internal clashes.
