He was caught driving a motorcycle, registration number KMEC 785W, when detectives noticed that his luggage looked suspicious.
A subsequent search of the 42-year-old revealed 397 grams of drugs, carefully hidden to avoid detection.
Along with the drugs, officers found two syringes and needles, ten rolls of marijuana, and three packs of cigarettes, items believed to be part of an ongoing drug distribution.
“The arrest ended what detectives believe was an active distribution of narcotics,” the DCI reported in a statement, underscoring the success of the operation.
Kariuki is currently being held by the police while detectives continue with further investigation before being brought to court.
DCI stated its commitment to a zero-tolerance approach, stressing that the operation is part of a broader strategy to dismantle drug cartels across Kenya.
“DCI remains fully committed to disrupting drug trafficking networks through relentless operations and multi-agency cooperation. With zero tolerance for illegal traffickers, regardless of their status, we will ensure a safe and drug-free Kenya for all,” the statement continued.

What did Kenyans say about DCI’s success in Nakuru?
The arrest sparked mixed reactions from Kenyans, with many questioning whether he was responsible and what would be done with the ‘big fish’.
Jackson Ochieng:
“How can 397 grams, which are smaller than normal bread, raise doubts, especially when they are carried by a motorcycle? 🤣😅 but there are motorcycles that carry 300 kilograms of goods… or was he deceived?”
Philoh Cryptoking:
“He doesn’t look like a millionaire though, I think he was sent to deliver the goods”
Kenyan Muraya:
“It doesn’t make sense at all … Nway, let us know when you arrest the leaders of the criminal group, not the people who are transporting them who may not even know what they are carrying.”
Beautiful Beibz:
“The guy looks innocent, maybe he doesn’t know what he was transporting”
Bottowaigamba It’s Me:
That was the plan.. unfortunately a boda guy doing his daily activities was caught in the fight… he was innocent.. unfortunately he will be in prison because the illegal traders are probably continuing their business.. justice will prevail…”
The Same One:
“This is a clean plan, there’s no such thing as a questionable burden! How big was that burden, but it’s something he can even hide in his pockets!!”
