It happened along Douglas Wakiihuri Road, near Lang’ata Road, where excavators and bulldozers entered shortly before midnight.
The installations were escorted by a large contingent of police officers in full riot gear, and by dawn, structures had been leveled, equipment destroyed and vehicles parked in the area destroyed.
Videos that went viral on social media showed riot police patrolling the area as an excavator tore apart buildings.
Officers were seen carrying batons and tear gas launchers as they watched the demolition continue overnight.
The business, which operates under Superclean Shine Enterprises, offers car washing, carpet and mechanical cleaning services among others.
As the demolition continued, tension spread in the neighborhood as local business owners and young people working in the area tried to protest the operation, leading to clashes with the police.

Why did Wamatangi file a petition in court regarding his property?
The demolition occurred during an ongoing legal dispute after Wamatangi went to court over what he described as verbal threats to demolish the buildings.
In an application filed at the Milimani Commercial Magistrate’s Court, the governor said that the land in question belongs to the Kenya Railways Corporation and that he had legally occupied it for more than two decades.
He claimed that this long-term plan proved the existence of a valid and ongoing arrangement, where he had established and operated his business with the full knowledge and acceptance of the government agency.
The petition further states that around December 17, 2025, persons alleged to be officers, agents or employees working on behalf of Kenya Railways illegally visited the premises and issued verbal threats of eviction.

According to the file, they indicated that the buildings on the land would be demolished by December 22, 2025, or any time thereafter, despite failing to issue an official eviction notice or follow the procedures required by law.
Wamatangi insisted in the petition that the threatened actions were tantamount to a violation of his constitutional rights to property and administrative justice.
