Kirinyaga Couple Heartbroken After Their Only Son Drowns: “This Is Hell”

Kirinyaga: The recent incident of the drowning of the only child of the family in the Sagana River on the evening of Saturday, January 11, has brought great pain and despair to one family in the village of Kinji.

The man, John Gachiani, and Josephat Njuguna from Gakindu went to swim, but none of them managed to get out of the river.

Residents of the village reported that they were swept away by strong currents of water during the incident.

After the victims aged 21 and 16 went missing, normal activities were disrupted as residents failed to attend church services and their businesses, searching for their bodies along the river on Sunday and Monday.

Citizen Digital reported that on Monday night, January 12, the bodies were found, ending a harrowing search and bringing the bitter truth to parents who had hoped that their children would be found alive.

“The body of Njuguna, who was a Form Three student at Gakindu Secondary School, was found first, and Gachiani’s body was found later at 6pm,” said Jecinta Muthoni.

Gachiani’s parents, Nancy Wangari and Peter Githinji, were overwhelmed with grief.

The parents who spoke bitterly noted that they had three children, all of whom have died.

“My other two children died, my daughter was raped, killed and her body was dumped in a quarry four years ago. My first child also died. I had high hopes for John. He was my second child. This is hell,” Wangari said when he was akis he recounted the losses he experienced.

The bodies were taken to the Kibugi Mortuary in Kutus for safekeeping while funeral preparations begin.

Four drowned in Lake Naivasha after being attacked by hippos

In another tragic incident, grief befell four families there Nakuru after their relatives drowned in Lake Naivasha following a whiplash attack.

The victims were part of a group that went swimming in the lake when the tragic incident happened near KALRO, a few meters from the beach.

As families mourned in pain by the lake, a woman who was about to give birth told how her brother, one of the victims, promised to take her to the maternity ward.

Elsewhere, former Kenyan soccer star, Bonaventure Maruti, has denied reports of his death allegedly circulated by a local television channel, a former high-ranking government official, and the Kenya Footballers’ Welfare Association (KEFWA).

In a statement, Maruti claimed that none of the three parties contacted his family to confirm the statement before it was published.

According to Maruti, the posts were intended to cause fear among family members and close friends, and he confirmed that he has instructed his lawyers to take immediate action on the matter.
