Ferdinand Wanyonyi: Wetang’ula visits an ill Member of Parliament in India, reveals his condition

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has shared information about the health condition of the First Member of Parliament, Ferdinand Wanyonyi.

The Member of Parliament was flown to India at the beginning of December 2025 on the recommendation of doctors after staying in Nairobi Hospital for one month.

Is MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi recovering?

In a statement shared on Tuesday, January 13, Wetang’ula revealed that he visited the MP at the KIMS Health Care Management Limited Hospital in Kerala, India, where he is receiving special treatment.

During the visit, the team of doctors led by Dr. Nitha J, a medical consultant gave him information about Wanyonyi’s condition and confirmed that he is improving.

“I was relieved by the progress he made and I remain optimistic about his recovery. He is showing good response to treatment and rehabilitation under close medical supervision. I was assured that he is receiving medical services from various specialists and that his condition is stable,” he said.

“On behalf of the National Assembly and the people of Kenya, I thanked the doctors and staff of KIMS Health for their professionalism, dedication and high standards of service. The Assembly stands with Mr. Wanyonyi and his family as he continues his journey to recovery,” he added.

During the visit, Wetang’ula met with the leadership of the hospital, including the Chairman and CEO Dr. MI Sahadulla and Deputy General Manager of Operations, Ms. Subina.

They described the hospital’s special services, state-of-the-art diagnostics and its growing popularity as a regional and international referral center.

Will Nairobi collaborate with Kerala to improve health services?

He also noted that Kerala has become a preferred destination for many Kenyans looking for specialized health services due to the quality of services, advanced technology and relatively low cost.

“This visit has given me important light on areas that can collaborate,” he said, adding that when he returns to the country, he will involve the relevant parliamentary committees to investigate cooperation in professional training, knowledge transfer, research and formal referral systems to strengthen the capacity of the health sector in Kenya.

He was accompanied by Stephen Apopo from his office and the Kenya-India Deputy Head of Mission, ambassador Mary Mutuku, who confirmed the Embassy’s continued support to Kenyans receiving medical treatment in India.

At the same time, the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East, Grandfather Owinowas admitted to a hospital in Nairobi after reports emerged that he had stomach problems.

Amid the growing concern, the lawmaker aiming for the governorship of Nairobi broke his silence and thanked Kenyans for their prayers, while confirming that he continues to improve.

Later, some Kenyans flooded his social media accounts to wish him a speedy recovery, while others wanted him to be open about his treatment process.
