Bungoma Woman Hugs A Tree For 74 Hours To Argue About Corruption

Bugoma, Kenya- Flora Onyango is the latest person to hug a tree for a purpose, and she is doing so to complain about the rapidly increasing cases of corruption in the country.

Flora, aged 23, has vowed to hug a tree for 74 hours in Tongareni, Bungoma County, to create awareness about the dangers of corruption in the country.

Speaking to The Standard, the young woman shared that she is pleading with the government to fight for the rights of Kenyans.

If he completes the challenge, he will have broken the record set by Truphena Muthoni, who hugged a tree for 72 hours to raise awareness of environmental degradation.

Is Onyango Prepared?

“I have not prepared or practiced anything, but I am sure that I will break this record,” he said.

Onyango traveled from Nairobi to participate in the challenge, but he is a native of Tongareni.

“For my challenge, I will not eat or drink anything until I reach the end,” said the mother of one.

Third Party Results

So far, there have been mixed results for people who have tried to embrace trees for diversity.

Truphena Muthoni walked away with more awards and even got to meet the President William Ruto.

Gachanja and Irungu came later; although they received some help, their impact was not felt as strongly as that of the young woman.

The Fainted Priest at the 79th Hour

In another story, Father James Irungu from Murang’a to luck unfortunately he failed to complete his goal of 80 hours, but well-meaning Kenyans are helping him.

Earlier, some Kenyans accused Irungu of trying to emulate Truphena, who hugged a tree for 72 hours to create awareness of environmental degradation.

According to the young man, that was not his intention, and he just wanted to make sure that there is awareness of cancer, as the disease has spread throughout the country.
