On Monday, January 12, party leader and Siaya senator, Oburu Oginga, led an important meeting in Vipingo, Kilifi county.
How is ODM preparing for the 2027 election?
Reading the resolutions of the meeting, Oburu said the Central Committee has instructed the party to start preparations for the 2027 General Election with the aim of forming the next government.
“The Central Committee realized that the general election will be held next year and decided that the party cannot wait to start preparations. The committee gave an order that the structural work should begin immediately to position ODM not only to participate in next year’s general election, but also to form the next government, including policy development, organization preparation, coalition building, and candidate preparation,” said Oburu.
The committee has also instructed the party to start negotiations with other political parties in the hope of forming a coalition.
Oburu has been given the authority to lead the negotiations, starting with the President’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). William Ruto.
The Siaya senator said the negotiations have already begun and will culminate in the presentation of results and recommendations at the next National Conference of Party Representatives (NDC).
“The committee meeting showed the intention to start a structural dialogue with various political groups, starting with the United Democratic Alliance. Therefore, we have been given the authority of the party leader to start this process. At the same time, the consultation with the members of the party will continue, culminating in the National Conference of Representatives,” said Oburu.
Why did Edwin Sifuna boycott the important meeting of ODM Kilifi?
Oburu also explained why the Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi failed to attend the important meeting.
To deal with internal conflicts, the leadership of the committee sent an official apology from Sifuna and Osotsi for failing to attend the important meeting.
“Yes, the two, Godfrey Osotsi, who is the deputy leader, is in South Africa and has apologized for not being able to attend. Sifuna has also sent his apology for not being able to come to this session; he missed his flight. The party has received their requests not to be there,” said Oburu.
