Rodney Mongare, a candidate from Nyambaria High School, is now preparing to travel to South Africa to pursue his Private Pilot License (PPL) at Zino Aviation.

How Ruth encouraged Rodney to succeed

Behind Rodney’s story is an amazing mother, Ruth Kemunto, who told TUKO.co.ke that she believes the opportunity will set her on the path to her dream career.

Ruth expressed her excitement at the fact that the young man not only made her proud but also kept her career dreams alive.

In an earlier interview, a teacher from Nyamira County shared how she struggled to nurture her son’s ambition.

For four years, Ruth has been driving Rodney to and from school in Business Class on Kenya Airways every semester, an unusual but intentional gesture meant to encourage him to dream boldly and visualize success.

Why did Ruth fly Rodney on the KQ Business Class flight?

He started flying him when he joined Form One, building a culture of good education since he was studying in a boarding school from Grade 3 to Grade 8.

Ruth explained that giving her son the ultimate experience of flying with a national airline was more than comforting; it was motivation.

He wanted him to understand the world of aviation firsthand through meeting KQ captains, interacting with flight crews, and observing flight operations up close.

“I always told him to work harder so that he could enter the national school and even aspire to be the school captain,” he said proudly.

Atunga Hazard

“Some people are blessed. In high school after being bought bar soap pens and shoe polish, I would be told to find my way to school.”

Kosgei C Aron

“I like this. May he receive favors in life. Just remember, he is vulnerable and should be well taken care of. Smart young people are weak.”

Where will Rodney study aviation?

His approach has been an ongoing lesson for Rodney: that desire, discipline, and exposure can open doors that once seemed impossible.

Rodney now celebrating an A in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, the next chapter of his journey begins.

His mother hopes he will not only do well in South Africa but eventually return home as a fully trained pilot.

From the classroom to the cockpit, Rodney’s path is a testament to how a parent’s faith can take a child, both literally and figuratively, to new heights.
