AFCON 2025: Manchester United Sends Message to Bryan Mbeumo After Cameroon Quit Tournament

Manchester United has shared a message following Morocco’s progress to the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Morocco defeated Cameroon 2-0 in a packed quarter-final on Friday evening at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah in Rabat.

Morocco kicks Cameroon out of AFCON 2025

The attacker of Real Madrid Brahim Diaz continued his good form, scoring in his fifth game in a row and breaking the deadlock in the 26th minute. Diaz scored on Ayoub El Kaabi’s corner kick from Achraf Hakimi to seal the goal.

Ismael Saibari then added another goal in the second half to put the hosts in the last four.

The result meant that Manchester United striker, Bryan Mbeumo, was eliminated from the competition after failing to inspire his team.

Mbeumo started and completed all 90 minutes of the competition up front with Christian Kofane. He left the tournament with his only goal contribution on the first day of the match against Gabon.

On the other hand, Noussair Mazraoui managed to reach the semi-finals. The United full-back has started all of Morocco’s games at AFCON 2025.

Manchester United caretaker manager Darren Fletcher has revealed he expects Mbeumo to return soon, but ruled him out of their FA Cup game against Brighton on Sunday.

“I think it is very close to change. So we will have the same players for that game, as we had against Burnley, so no new additions,” he said via the club’s website.

“I’d like to see our boy Mazraoui shine… but if we’re being honest, the biggest pass of the night was Morocco beating Cameroon, so we won’t lose Mbeumo for two more weeks. Football is cold.”

Michael Ogar said,

“Mazraoui saw Mbeumo about to score against Cameroon and said, ‘Not today, I need you back at Old Trafford by Monday.'”

While Kolawole said,

“Two wins for Manchester United right now. We wished Mazraoui well and welcome Mbeumo back to the team.”

Mbeumo’s first game for United is now expected to be the Manchester derby on January 17.

Ivory Coast vs Egypt

The Red Devils have also sent their best wishes to their other player in the tournament, Amad Diallo, who will be on the pitch on Saturday evening.

Diallo, who has been impressive so far, will be looking to take Ivory Coast past Egypt Mohamed Salah and enter the semi-finals.

Supercomputer predicts AFCON 2025 winner

Opta’s supercomputer has predicted who will win AFCON 2025. Senegal and Morocco have already secured their semi-final tickets. Morocco remains the most popular with 22.52%.

Senegal will play the winner of the game between Egypt and Ivory Coast, while Morocco will face the winner of the game against Algeria Nigeria.
