Kilifi North Member of Parliament, Ken Chonga, warned the ODM party against excluding Joho, saying that the former governor of Mombasa’s contribution to the Orange party is deeply rooted in its history.

“You have played a big role in taking ODM to where it is today. The history of ODM will not be complete without your name. No one builds a house and then leaves it and goes to the neighbor,” Chonga said.

Kilifi Governor, Gideon Mung’aro, said the region is ready to seize leadership before the 2027 General Election.

“We will take the original ODM, and we will not follow half a piece because we have a large part in the party,” Mung’aro said.

Aisha Jumwaa former Member of Parliament for Malindi, warned that the Coast region could change its political allegiance if the Minister of Mines is not appointed to a top ODM leadership position.

He said that Pwani has been supporting the late opposition leader and ODM, even beyond their traditional strongholds.

“In 2017, the Coast region gave Raila Odinga and the ODM party more seats and votes; even Nyanza did not suit us. Hassan Joho has invested a lot of time and resources in ODM. If the leadership of ODM is not given to Joho, we the people of the Coast will have to defend another political path, and we will not be afraid. Joho has everything needed to be the leader of the party,” Jumwa said.
