In 2022, a young student, Fred Ekiru, touched the hearts of many Kenyans after he was escorted to Kapsabet Boys High School to join Form One by his old relatives who were wearing traditional clothes.

His story touched many who saw him as a future hope for his family who seemed to need help, while they seemed tired from the long journey they traveled to accompany him to the national school.

As soon as the photos of the family spread and their situation became known to the public, the government intervened, promising to educate the young man and ensure that he continues his secondary studies without financial restrictions.

The then Minister of Education, the late George Magoha, announced that Fred would benefit from the Education Kenya Scholarship Fund.
