The clumsy politician has warned that such remarks by the former vice president must be totally condemned.

In his statement on Wednesday, January 7, Wamuchomba criticized Gachagua’s proposal that only students from the Mt Kenya area should be given a place in prestigious national schools in the area.

The MP described the idea that national schools in the area, such as Alliance High School and Mang’u High School, should only be reserved for children from Mount Kenya, as unwise.

He added that if such ideas are allowed to continue, they may go as far as demanding that all teachers in the area be of a certain ethnicity, a move he said would be discriminatory.

“It is not reasonable to suggest that all National Schools in the Mlima area should only provide students from “Mlima”. Imagine such a person as president. Soon he will demand that all teachers in Mlima schools must be Sapere,” Wamuchomba said.

The MP described Gachagua’s sentiments as dangerous and warned that it was creating division, adding that every Kenyan has rights.

“This guy must be stopped from using the ethnic card to prevent students from entering National schools. Every child has rights!,” Wamuchomba added.

He further asked what would happen if Kenyans from other areas developed similar ideas, questioning whether Gachagua would provide the locals with a source of income.

“If you don’t want others in your schools, then stop renting your houses to them. Munyoro will pay your rent every month. How stupid is this?” Mamuchomba asked.

Why is Gachagua criticizing about students from other areas being brought to study in Mount Kenya schools?

The responses come after Gachagua criticized the government for what he called a chaotic and unfair system of placing Grade 10 students in senior high schools.

His remarks were made during a church service at the AIPCA Kiratina Church in Githunguri, Kiambu county, on Sunday, January 4.

Gachagua questioned why well-performing students from Mount Kenya were being sent to low-ranking schools outside the area, while students from other counties were getting places in the best institutions in the area.

The former deputy president also blamed the government for mishandling the ongoing transition to senior secondary education under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.

He cited examples where students from Kiambu were placed in day schools as far away as Kericho and alleged that some female students had been wrongly assigned to boys’ schools.

“This is a totally confused government. Of course, a fish rots from the head. (The president) is a confused person. All he does is crafting shady deals and making money,” Gachagua claimed.

He further accused President William Ruto’s administration of dismantling key education achievements of past governments, citing delays in capitation funding that have left schools operating under financial strain.
