Karai Accident: The Father of a Catechist Who Died With His Wife and 2 Children Tells the Last Promise

A family from Ndondo village in Gatundu South, Kiambu county, has spoken emotionally after losing their loved ones in a horrific accident.

Catechist James Njoroge Kabari died along with his family, including his wife and two children, in a tragic road accident in Karai, Naivasha county Nakuru.

Teresiah Wanjiru, six-year-old Michael Kabari, and one-year-old John Mark Kabui died instantly in the accident that happened on Wednesday, January 5.

However, Njoroge’s daughter, Clare Wairimu, survived the tragedy, being the family’s only ray of hope amid the mourning.

Where Was Njoroge Going When The Accident Happened?

Njoroge’s father could not wipe away the tears when he remembered receiving the news of his son’s death. Njoroge was the catechist of St Mary’s Ridgeways.

“When we got the news, we kept wondering what happened to our son. He died and left us,” Joel Kabari said with tears.

Njoroge and his family were passengers on a Greenline bus heading to Gilgil when the accident occurred.

He was reportedly accompanying his wife back to Gilgil, where he worked as a primary school teacher.

Njoroge’s Neighbor Speaks With Pain

Joel also emotionally recounted his son’s last promise, which was not fulfilled following the tragic road accident.

“He and his wife should have taken me to the hospital again on the 23rd. His wife had told me she would come to pick me up. Those two were my helpers,” Joel said heartbreakingly.

Njoroge’s neighbour, Moses Mugetha, who joined other mourners at the family’s home in prayer, expressed deep sorrow as he shared his grief.

Mugetha asked donors to help the family in burying Njoroge and his loved ones, explaining that burying four family members at the same time is a huge burden.

Joel’s Cry After His Grandson Survived The Accident

Wairimu, who survived the accident with a needle stick, was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

Joel made an emotional appeal to Kenyans to help him care for his seven-year-old grandson, who is still in critical condition.

“If there is any help we can get, let it be for the child. He is the only one left. He is in the hospital, and we have nothing to ensure he is allowed to leave. We are asking for help for this child,” he asked.

Njoroge’s mother was so overcome with grief that she could not speak, unable to accept the terrible loss.

Survivors of the Karai accident speak out

In a related story, survivors of the accident that killed 10 also spoke, recounting the terrifying moments when they almost lost their lives.

One woman who survived said she suffered injuries to her chest and knee after being cut by the glass, adding that she was thankful to be alive.

The man who survived claimed the driver was speeding and ignored repeated pleas from passengers to slow down.
