The Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has ruled out the possibility of sabotage in the tragic death of former Lugari Member of Parliament, Cyrus Jirongo.

What are the findings of the DCI regarding the death of Cyrus Jirongo?
The agency said it collected information from all parties, including the driver and conductor of the Climax bus that had an accident, seven passengers, Jirongo’s first wife, Anne Lanoi, Eagol gas station attendants, as well as those inside the Toyota Probox that was following the deceased’s car shortly before the accident.
The investigation was conducted by a team of experts from various departments, including homicide detectives, experts from the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, as well as forensic experts from the National Forensic Laboratory.
Others interviewed include people who met Jirongo on the day of his death, including the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula.
“The team visited and investigated the scene, secured and preserved important evidence, and returned CCTV images from the Eagol gas station for investigation and analysis. In addition, the list of bus passengers and videos of people who were present at the scene were found and scientifically examined,” DCI said in a statement.
Which bus saved the passengers after the accident that killed Jirongo?
Investigators also received information from Julius Kiprotich Chelule, the driver of the Climax rescue bus with registration number KCU 573A, which picked up the passengers after the accident.
According to the evidence reviewed so far, the circumstances of Jirongo’s death show that it was a road accident without any signs of sabotage, the DCI said.
The department hinted at the possibility of charging the bus driver, saying the case file will be submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) once the investigation is complete.

“After the completion of the remaining investigation procedures, the case file will be sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for further instructions, including the possibility of criminal charges against the PSV driver based on the available evidence,” DCI said.
At the same time, DCI warned citizens and politicians against developing conspiracy theories about the accident.

The department urged all those with important information about the accident to submit it instead of spreading rumors and baseless assumptions.
“DCI offers its sincere condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Mr. Cyrus Jirongo. We urge citizens and political leaders to refrain and avoid making speculative or unverified statements that may affect the investigation process or cause unnecessary panic to the public.” the department said.
Jirongo was buried on December 30 in his native village of Lumakanda, Kakamega County.
How Cyrus Jirongo died
He died on December 13, 2025, after being hit by a passenger bus kiss speeding to collide with his Mercedes Benz car along the Nairobi-Nakuru Road in Karai, Naivasha.
The collision left him with serious injuries, including broken legs, and he died on the spot.
