Nairobi – A domestic dispute over ugali production has turned deadly, leaving a 70-year-old man dead and his 20-year-old son in police custody.

Joseph Okello, a resident of Mugumoini area, reportedly died on the spot after a heated argument with his son, Peter Olwenye, over the cooking of Kenyan staple food.

A Citizen Digital report revealed that witnesses claimed that the argument started when Okello questioned his son’s approach.

The 70-year-old man reportedly called his son, insisting that the water used to cook the ugali was not boiled enough.

How was Olwenye arrested after his father was killed?

Residents say the dispute quickly turned violent with Olwenye allegedly stabbing his father multiple times in the back and neck, leaving him seriously injured.

Seeing the consequences of his actions, the young man allegedly panicked and reportedly fled the scene immediately.

Mugumoini Chief George Mukuria claimed that the suspect may have been under the influence of drugs while trying to run away.

Local community members, including village elders and youths, launched an operation to find Olwenye.

Finally, they managed to find him in Soweto, where he was arrested and handed over to Lang’ata Police Station officers who were on patrol.

The body of the deceased was transported to Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly known as City Mortuary, where it is awaiting post-mortem.

As reported earlier, grief and shock have engulfed Kilimani village, Seregeya sub-ward, Likuyani state, Kakamega County, following a tragic incident that left a family torn apart.

Residents were left in disbelief after a dispute between two brothers, Michael Lukala and Reuben Lutabony, ended with Reuben allegedly killing Michael.

Their brother, Peter Lukala, said that the brothers returned home after working together during the day, after digging a well.

He said the long-standing grudge had led to increased strife near their home.

According to Peter, Reuben reportedly attacked Michael from behind while he was preparing ugali, using an ax to repeatedly hit him in the back of the head and finally in the eye.

The injuries were so severe that Michael died on the spot, leaving the family devastated.

Peter noted that the brothers had been living under the same roof for some time and said that the dispute was allegedly caused by a dispute over food.

Their mother, Esther Akwam, expressed her grief, adding that she tried to intervene but was defeated by Reuben, who allegedly forced her out and locked the door.
