The details of the dispute have largely emerged from a statement written by Babu, who reported the matter at the Kilimani Police Station shortly after the incident.
The speaker of parliament Embakasi Mashariki said the incidents happened unexpectedly after a quiet afternoon meeting.
Did Alai attack Babu without provocation?
In his statement, Babu said he had gone to the restaurant at about 9:40 in the evening following an invitation from the head priest.
He noted that he had informed his bodyguards about the Christmas holidays and had driven to the venue and after a conversation that lasted about 20 minutes, he stood up to leave.
As he was leaving, Babu said he saw a group of people who knew each other at a nearby table, among them being the Kileleshwa MCA.
Out of respect, he claimed he approached the group to greet them, but what started as a casual conversation quickly turned hostile.
He recounted that someone at the table said that one day he could be the governor of Nairobi, a comment that seemed to anger the MCA.
