The newspapers also reported on the Kenya Medical and Dental Council’s (KMPDC) warning against miracle cures.

1. The Standard

The newspaper reported on a shocking gun incident involving the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East Grandfather Owino and Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai.

Babu gave a statement explaining how the shocking incident happened in a famous restaurant in the Kilimani area.

That member of parliament Embakasi Mashariki claimed that Alai accused him of using social media to attack his wife before taking out a pistol and hitting her in the chest and jaw in front of other customers.

“At that time, Hon. Alai became aggressive, pushed me, took out a pistol, and hit me in the chest and jaw with it, all visible in front of the customers in the center. I stood firm and begged him to calm down, asking him to explain what mistake I had made to deserve that violent action. He seemed to calm down, and we sat for a while, while another person placed himself between us,” he said.

The police, who have already launched an investigation into the incident, confiscated Alai’s gun while officials demanded a thorough investigation.

2. Daily Nation

The publication reported on an investigation ordered by Health Minister Aden Duale targeting the self-proclaimed prophet David Owuor of the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness.

Duale asked the Kenya Medical and Dental Council (KMPDC) to investigate claims that Owuor had cured HIV patients.

Following the battle in Nakuru in the last two days of 2025 with the self-proclaimed prophet, some ministers claimed to have been cured of major diseases such as cancer and HIV.

However, the Minister of Health and KMDDC issued a strongly worded statement explaining the dangers of believing such claims.

Duale said in a statement on Sunday, January 4, that although the ministry recognizes the role of faith in the lives of Kenyans, “health and life issues must remain grounded in science, ethics and evidence-based medicine”.

KMPDC, which licenses doctors, said it would investigate and take “appropriate action” against doctors, which it said would include “possible legal action”.

“Although faith and spirituality play an important role in the lives of many people, relying solely on unproven methods of healing for serious illnesses can lead to serious risks. KMPDC strongly advises the public against abandoning prescribed treatments, such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes, high blood pressure, epilepsy and other chronic diseases and in favor of unproven alternatives, as such practices are against established public health guidelines,” said the regulator’s statement.

During the war, people with chronic diseases or disabilities were declared safe, but according to the KMPDC, the lack of scientific evidence raised questions.

“KMPDC has taken note of recent media reports and public discourse on claims of faith-based healing for serious health conditions, including HIV/AIDS, cancer, blindness, deafness, muteness and physical disabilities. These claims, attributed to some medical professionals during the religious war in Nakuru, have raised serious concerns about public health safety and professional ethics,” the statement said.

3. Nation Today

The Kiswahili newspaper reported on the differences between the former vice president Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka regarding the naming of the United Opposition presidential candidate.

The Wiper Patriotic Front leader had previously indicated that the candidate who will face Ruto in 2027 will be revealed early this year.

However, Gachagua announced that the opposition will postpone naming its joint presidential candidate for strategic reasons.

“If we announce our candidate too early, our candidate will be completely confused. We will announce our candidate a few months before the election,” Gachagua said in Murang’a on Saturday, January 3.

Gachagua explained that the postponement will give the opposition more time to strengthen support and attract other like-minded parties to the coalition.
