The Kileleshwa ward representative made it clear that the incident was a personal misunderstanding rather than a politically motivated attack.
According to Babu, the dispute, which happened on Saturday, January 3, got worse after Alai accused him of planning social media attacks against his wife, a claim which the MP denied.

In a statement shared on Sunday, January 4, Babu described the incident as a threat to his life, claiming that Alai was aggressive, pushed him, pulled out a pistol, hit him in the chest and jaw, and even poured water on him.
He later reported the incident at the Kilimani Police Station, describing the incident as part of a wider pattern of intimidation.
How did the interaction between Babu and Alai happen?
During an interview with TV47 on Monday, January 5, Alai explained a version of events that is very different from Babu’s narrative.
However, Alai gave a different perspective, saying that he was sitting with friends when Babu approached their table to greet them.
He explained that he told the MP clearly Embakasi East that it was not good to interact with him, adding that Babu ignored that.
The Representative emphasized that he told the MP that he was not running for the governorship of Nairobi, stressing that he was not in a political position to cooperate with him.
“I told him that I am not very good at greeting you. He started pushing my head, telling me how he will organize me in the county of Nairobi city, which he is capturing. He said, “Nairobi is gone,” I said I am not running for any governor seat because I hear you are running for the governor seat. So I don’t think I should be in a conversation with the governor because I am not a candidate,” Alai narrated.

Alai explained that the tension increased as he reportedly warned Babu to prevent family members from hearing political speeches.
He added that he begged the member of parliament to leave, describing the incident as not making him happy at all but Babu continued to be confused.
“So he continued to insist. In fact, one of the people who was sitting with me joked that he would give me a financial document. I said, I am not a candidate in these matters, but what I urge you is that when you do all your politics, please do not involve family members. Because if you do, then it becomes very bad for us. Then, you know, he started to get very confused. He kept pushing my head. I told him, I don’t want to greet you. Please just go home,” he narrated.
Did Alai pull out his gun on Babu?
Regarding the explosive gun allegations, Alai insisted that he did not draw his weapon during the restaurant dispute.
He explained that the gun was in his waist, but I did not pull it out, adding that the person sitting next to him saw the gun because he was wearing a shirt, not a jacket.
“When I stood up and pushed him back, I think now he has caused other problems. Because I didn’t pull out the gun. There was a gun in my waist, but I didn’t pull out the gun. The person sitting next to me saw the gun in my waist because I was only wearing a shirt. I wasn’t wearing a jacket. And he took the gun and said that I gave him a gun,” Alai added.

Alai expressed confidence that his name will be cleared, pointing to possible video evidence in the restaurant.
“If you go to that restaurant, they have a video. Take out one video where I said I pulled a gun on him. I think it’s just nonsense because the fact that a problem has happened, then you look for ways to add onion, you know, I see ingredients that are not normal for me,” Alai said.
Was Alai’s gun taken?
