“Edwin Sifuna is the General Secretary who has failed in his job and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) must order him to obey orders. Recently we have seen him getting involved in public platforms and promoting selfish ideas and values for his own personal gain and discriminatory views and not promoting the values of the party,” he said.

He warned that the MP’s recent behavior could hurt the party as it prepares for a tough election cycle in the post- Raila Odinga.

He claimed that the secretary-general had abandoned his administrative authority in favor of public appearances, accusing him of promoting factions instead of ODM unity.

“We are entering a very difficult period of the general election and you are still playing with the party. If you are tired and want to go work for other parties, go and work for those other parties but if you want to work for the democratic movement of the orange color, you must follow the party line. We will not allow you to joke,” he said.

He further criticized him for allegedly humiliating his deputy, Senator Agnes Zani, especially on issues related to compensation for victims of police brutality, an issue that ODM has championed in the past.

Is Sifuna legitimately the secretary general?

The activist also criticized Sifuna’s political stance, accusing him of opposing the government’s comprehensive plan despite being part of its creation.

Kasmuel claimed that Sifuna’s public opposition to the plan appeared to be fueled by his personal dissatisfaction rather than party principles.

He focused his criticism on Sifuna’s apparent closeness to the former president Uhuru Kenyattaquestioning why Sifuna allowed Uhuru, who insisted he was not a founding member of ODM, to handle party events.

According to Kasmuel, the move contradicted the party’s historic grievances, including the disputed 2022 election and Kenya’s mounting public debt during Uhuru’s tenure.

“This Uhuru Kenyatta whom you forgive, we know the evils and damage he caused to this country due to the burden of debt to you, forget the administration that stole the election from Baba,” Kasmuel said.

The activist further challenged Sifuna’s legitimacy as secretary-general, claiming that she did not rise to the position through an electoral process.

“You were a privileged candidate that if it wasn’t for the generosity of Raila Odinga you wouldn’t have become the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement. You didn’t get there on merit. You were handpicked. They saw your potential. So don’t play with us,” he added.

He said that the party would not suffer any losses if Sifuna were to leave, stressing that ODM’s survival had already passed its biggest test following the death of its long-time leader, Raila.
