Osotsi’s remarks are due to increasing tension within ODM, caused by allegations that some members are planning to change the party’s political direction before the 2027 General Election.
Junet has been at the center of the storm, recently warning that the party will suppress people who are alleged to be planning a coup within ODM from January next year.
The Suna Member of Parliament said the party is aware of internal tricks aimed at disrupting its leadership, and accused some leaders of trying to bid for ODM.
How will Osotsi defend his political position in ODM?
During the funeral of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo in Lumakanda, Osotsi vowed to defend his political position in the party amid growing infighting over the direction of the party following the death of the former prime minister. Raila Odinga.
The deputy leader of the ODM party ignored any attempts to intimidate or push him and other leaders out of the party, declaring that they were rooted in ODM and ready to fight for their position.
Osotsi termed the conflict as a personal and regional war, stressing that the Luhya community has invested heavily in the party since its formation and will not be alienated now that Raila is dead.
The MP warned that any attempt to remove them from the party, which is probably the largest in Kenya since the establishment of multi-party democracy, would be a mess.
“We are in ODM to stay, and no one will come and tell us that we are being pushed out. If they bring fights, we will fight them. We are not afraid. As Luhyas, we have invested in this party from 2007 until now. We cannot now, just because Baba is no longer there, be told, “You people should leave.” It will be difficult, my friend,” Osotsi announced amid cheers.
Does Junet weaken the party’s democracy?
He also targeted Junet directly, questioning his political influence and accusing him of undermining internal democracy within the party.
Osotsi mentioned the late businessman and politician Cyrus Jirongo as a symbol of the strong structures of the party, warning against what he described as the bad behavior of some leaders.
He further compared the votes that Junet contributes to the party, stressing that he has no political power compared to him.
“I am saying this because Cyrus Jirongo believed in strong democracy and strong political parties, and then someone comes up with nonsense. Let me tell you, Junet Mohamed, where you come from there are very few votes; we have more votes than you,” Osotsi added.

Elsewhere, the Minister of Cooperatives and Small Businesses Wycliffe Oparanya sparked controversy after he announced that he was ready to leave ODM.
Oparanya said his loyalty to ODM has been based on common values and common purpose, saying he would make that sacrifice for the unity of the Luhyas.
