Speaking on Monday, December 29, at his home in Nyahera, Ruth recounted the struggle for multi-party democracy, paying tribute to those who died along the way.
How does Ruth respect Raila’s legacy?
Ruth highlighted Raila’s integrity, recalling that the former prime minister, who was a member of the illustrious multi-party reform group, treated everyone with respect regardless of social status.
He reflected on the lasting legacy of the former leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), especially his commitment to justice for the victims of the post-election violence.
The Kisumu MP revealed that his brother’s last thoughts were about these victims and the need for their compensation, a mission he vowed to continue.
“We must leave the sidelines and follow the 10-point agenda of the NADCO report. Baba died asking about compensation for the victims of election violence. It is not a secret. At the right time, I will tell the whole nation what Raila said,” he said.
Who is betraying ODM’s legacy?
The MP did not avoid controversy, stressing the allegations that some people were trying to sell the Orange party amid the change of power after Raila’s death.
Ruth emphasized that the power of the Orange party was not debatable and must be reserved for the people, not for personal interests.
He explained that those behind the plan were allegedly betraying Kenyans who paid a heavy price in the struggle for the second liberation.
“Don’t sell the ODM Party. Some people have already sold it and have been given time to complete the transaction. A political party with the status of ODM must be strong. Those who want to sell the party do not know the struggles and deaths, and closures that led to multi-party democracy and later the ODM party,” he added.

He further emphasized that any political talks before the 2027 General Elections should not affect the strength of the party.
The MP warned about being in a hurry to make an agreement with the President’s administration William Rutostressing the delicate balance between strategic cooperation and maintaining the party’s core values.
“As I have always said, I am not against negotiations before the 2027 elections. But that should not make us real people. If we join the government, what will the conditions be? We risk negotiating with ourselves without being forgotten if we do not work on the strength of the party, which will give us the number we put on the table. ODM is a party of the people for the people,” Ruth declared.
Has the ODM party been sold?
The MP’s remarks come against increased claims and conflicting claims about the ownership of the ODM party.
Previously, ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna he broke his silence, dismissing claims that the party had been sold to a private individual.

The dispute arose from the claims of the leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Rigathi Gachaguawho claimed that President William Ruto had taken control of ODM through an agreement involving senior party officials Junet Mohamed and Gladys Wanga.
Gachagua claimed that the two leaders had received an advance payment in the alleged agreement and claimed that Junet deliberately stayed out on the day Raila passed to facilitate the transaction.
The former DP warned that such moves could reduce ODM to a regional party largely isolated from Luo Nyanza, citing the recent by-election results as evidence of its declining national influence.
