During the emotional funeral ceremony, several leaders openly questioned the circumstances surrounding Jirongo’s sudden death, citing what they described as inconsistencies in the investigation.

A particularly shocking moment came when former Vihiga senator, George Khaniri, suggested that there may have been foul play.
The politician said that Jirongo had no apparent reason to be in Naivasha the night he died.
According to him, he spoke to Jirongo on the phone at about 5 pm, after arriving at the hall early before leaving. He claimed that from their phone call, the former member of parliament confirmed that he did not leave the hall.
Where was Cyrus Jirongo before he died?
Following the remarks, Wetang’ula took the stage to give his own account of the last time he saw Jirongo alive.
The Speaker confirmed that they were together on Republic Day night, along with two other people, after attending national celebrations.
Wetang’ula said the group met at about 2pm, confirming again that Senator Vihiga Khaniri arrived at the hall shortly before leaving.
He explained that he left Jirongo at about 3:30 p.m., as he needed to return home to prepare for another funeral scheduled for the next day.
How did Wetang’ula receive the news of Jirongo’s death?
Wetang’ula emotionally recalled how he learned of Jirongo’s death the next morning, saying the news was given by his son.

“He came and told me, ‘Dad, I’m so sorry about your friend Jirongo.’ I asked him why, and he said he died in an accident,” Wetang’ula said.
The speaker said that the news touched him a lot, describing it as very surprising.
“It hit me like a thunderbolt, like a missile, because he was my best friend. We worked together, we helped each other. He was a person who valued friendship and had time for his friends,” he added.
As of this publication, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) had ruled out foul play, saying that the white Toyota Probox that was allegedly following Jirongo was not involved in his death, nor were its passengers.
However, the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja revealed that an investigation into Jirongo’s death has since begun.
