He dismissed reports that he had died in a road accident and suggested that the official narrative was not clear.
Speaking during Jirongo’s funeral at his Lumakanda home in Lugari state, Kakamega County, Khaniri said that his longtime friend and political partner had no plans to travel to Naivasha on the night he is said to have died.

According to him, Jirongo was with the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula and two other people.
“I saw my brother at Oasis, Karen, at about 8:30 in the afternoon. He was sitting with Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and two other people. I did not join them because I had other activities, but he saw me as I was leaving,” Khaniri told the mourners.
What did Jirongo say to Khaniri?
He further revealed that he later spoke to Jirongo on the phone at about 5pm.
“I talked to my brother at 5 pm and asked him where he was. He told me he was in the same place where I left him. We even talked about the meeting we had planned for the next day, and he assured me that he had that idea in mind,” Khaniri said.
Khaniri dismissed allegations that Jirongo intended to travel to the countryside that night, saying the only place he mentioned going was his home in Gigiri.
“He told me he was about to leave for his home in Gigiri. Now we are told that he was involved in a road accident in Naivasha. My brother had no plans to go to Naivasha. I can confirm that,” he said.
The former senator went on to question reports that Jirongo drove himself to Naivasha, describing the claims as untrue.

“From the way I knew him, you are lying to me when you tell me that Jirongo drove himself to Naivasha. That is a lie,” Khaniri declared.
He emphasized that Jirongo’s death raises serious unanswered questions and vowed that family and friends will not stop searching for the truth.
“We will continue to ask these questions. Those who do not feel comfortable with our questions must know that we will continue until we get answers,” he said.
Khaniri also expressed doubts about the details of the alleged accident, especially the claim that Jirongo’s car collided with a 65-seater bus that was heading towards kiss.
“You are telling us that his car collided with a bus that was carrying 65 passengers, most of them Luhya. Is there a Luhya who does not know Jirongo? Why did not a single passenger come forward to explain what happened? Out of 65 people, no one recorded the accident or spoke? You are lying to us,” he added.
