During the process of removing Gachagua in 2024, Nyoro’s name was mentioned among those who were thought to replace Gachagua if the motion was successful.

However, speaking more than a year later, the MP said he never intended to be the Deputy President of William Ruto in any environment.

According to him, the concept was created for political gain and had no truth.

Nyoro dismissed allegations that he secretly supported the motion to remove Gachagua hoping to succeed him, saying the appointment of Professor Kithur Kindiki it was proof enough that all those claims were false.

“The reason I think it is unwise to continue answering political matters is because time answers many questions. That question was answered by time about what was assumed but was not true,” he said.

Nyoro also spoke about his position on the motion to remove Gachagua.

He was absent from the National Assembly session that approved the removal of Gachagua in October 2024.

At that time, he remained silent about his position, he was not seen among those who supported or opposed the motion.

A year later, Nyoro revealed that he opposed the move from the very beginning. He explained that he made it clear that he would not participate, considering the process to be politically ambiguous.

“I was there. The debate continued; I did not agree with them. I told those who were pushing it not because of political interests, but for other reasons. I would not participate in the motion to remove him. At that time we were still a team. We were responsible to each other. And because I knew it was our team that was pushing the motion, and I had a different perspective, I communicated and made it clear that I would not participate,” he said.

Nyoro added that his decision to withdraw was based on personal reasons.

“I gave my position that whatever results would happen, I would not blame anyone. In my case, it was for deep and personal reasons,” he said.

The motion to remove Gachagua was presented by Kibwezi West Member of Parliament, Mwengi Mutuse, who accused Gachagua of violating the Constitution, making inflammatory statements, neglecting his duties as Ruto’s Deputy, and amassing assets worth more than KSh 5.7 billion in controversial circumstances.

In total, 291 MPs voted for Gachagua’s removal, and the Senate later confirmed the charges.

The Minister of Internal Security at the time, Kithure Kindiki, was later appointed to replace him.

A year later, Mutuse said he has no regrets for starting the argument against Gachagua.

He compared his actions with those of the early leaders of Kenya who fought for independence, as well as those who opposed the KANU dictatorship and one-party rule.

He said he was proud of the decision, seeing it as a national responsibility similar to the struggle to liberate the country from colonialism and later from authoritarian rule.

Mutuse noted that even after being removed from power, Gachagua continued to engage in divisive politics, which was part of the reasons for his removal.

He said that the former Deputy President failed to learn from his mistakes and added that, if he had another opportunity, he would remove him from time to time.

Being the only MP elected in the 13th Parliament on the Maendeleo Chap Chap ticket, Mutuse insisted that Gachagua did not have the qualities expected of a leader, saying his term as Deputy President was a loss for Kenyans.

He added that, one year later, many citizens have begun to understand the logic of his position against Gachagua.

Mutuse also claimed that Gachagua’s style of politics was based on ethnicity and ethnic identity.

He said he felt vindicated, noting that even after leaving office, Gachagua continued to spread hatred and feelings of ethnic isolation, while ethnicity continued to be at the heart of his political mobilization.
