What did Jirongo say to David Murathe?
Murathe revealed that they exchanged joke messages and holiday greetings through one of Jirongo’s fake Facebook accounts.
“I had spoken to Jirongo before that Saturday. He sent me a message on one of the fake accounts saying, ‘if you received the corona vaccine and you don’t drink alcohol or smoke, you will die suddenly without any warning.’ I answered him, he laughed saying ‘hahaha.’ Then I wished him a happy holiday, and he said, ‘the same goes for you, my brother.’ That was just a day before the accident,” Murathe narrated.
Referring to Jirongo’s death, Murathe added:
“I know he is smiling looking at us because he is resting. Everything is in God’s timing. People predict what could happen, but the truth is that death comes in many ways—old age, illness, accident, or even self-harm. When that day comes, even if you are killed, it is one of the ways to die. But God has taken us as our hero.”
Murathe went on to credit Jirongo for playing an important role in creating a succession of political leaders in Kenya.
He noted that Jirongo’s constant pressure on the former president Daniel arap Moi that paved the way for Uhuru Kenyatta to become the fourth president of Kenya.
Murathe described Jirongo as a visionary political strategist, whose influence was often misunderstood.
He emphasized that more than politics, Jirongo was a “great thinker” with a broad international perspective.
Murathe highlighted the major development projects that Jirongo was running Uganda and Libya before his early death, describing him as a leader who always wanted to change ideas into reality.
