The family of Rashid Mukoya Idi, a senior videographer, announced that he has passed away after a short illness.
Idi died on Wednesday, December 25, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.
What award did Rashid Idi win?
According to an obituary from his former employer, Idi was a highly respected professional in the Standard Group’s editorial team, known for his dedication, great knowledge and innovative approach to work.
He started working at the company on January 17, 2013, and contributed for more than ten years, playing an important role in improving photojournalism and maintaining high standards in various media.
His achievements included winning the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Award in 2016, alongside writer Asha Mwilu.
Those who have worked with him remember Idi as a humble, reliable and dedicated person in his profession, while many emphasize his collaborative spirit.
The family explained that plans are underway to transport his body to Malaba on Friday, while the funeral is scheduled for Saturday, December 27.
“Standard Group offers its condolences to Idi’s family, friends and colleagues,” read the condolence statement.
How did his colleagues mourn Rashid Idi?
Through social networks, those who used to work with Idi admitted that they were deeply hurt by his death.
Philip Etale: “This is a very sad way to end a happy and colorful Christmas. My brother Rashid Idi, from our days at KIMC to KBC and Citizen, before you went to KTN, we have been very close. A good soccer player and a dedicated videographer in journalism. The last time I was with you was three weeks ago. Brother, the news of your death has hurt me deeply. Sad, sad, sad. Rest in peace, my friend.”

Idi’s death follows the death of veteran KBC radio presenter, Amina Fakii. Aged 83, he died on Sunday, December 21, 2025, and was buried the following day.
