In various towns and villages, families were seen flocking to entertainment venues and buying festive goods as they celebrated this festive season.

However, this year’s Christmas had an emotional weight for some Kenyans who stayed calm and remembered the former prime minister Raila Odinga.

Over the years, Raila has been the epitome of unity during the festive season, often delivering insightful Christmas messages that resonated with many across the country.

In 2021, Raila even dressed as Santa Claus when he hosted children in a spectacular children’s party at his home in Riat, Poisonous.

The video of Raila’s Christmas message is causing a sensation

In his absence, Kenyans resurfaced old videos of Raila wishing the nation a Merry Christmas, including one in which he reflected on the challenges facing the nation at the time.

“Unfortunately, this Christmas is different from other Christmases because it is taking place in a very difficult economic situation in our country. I spoke to several people yesterday, and they told me that they will not have any celebrations,” said Raila in an undated video.

He continued to encourage Kenyans to cover up during celebrations and prioritize safety.

“As we continue with the Christmas and New Year celebrations, I would like to encourage all Kenyans to refrain from excessive driving, as this can be dangerous and cause harm. I would also like to ask drivers to be careful on the roads so that they do not cause unnecessary accidents that will maim, injure or even kill our innocent citizens,” he said.

The former prime minister was buried with full national honors on Sunday, October 19, at his native Kang’o ka Jaramogi, BondoSiaya county.
