One of the newspapers highlighted the plan of Kalonzo Musyoka if he is elected president in the 2027 election.
1. Nation Today
According to National Todaythe leader of Wiper, Kalonzo Musyoka, has no intention of prioritizing his native region if he is elected as the sixth president of Kenya.
He defended himself against allegations that he has not implemented development projects during his 40 years in government, explaining that he refused the pressure to build a road leading to his home in Tseikuru.
Recently there has been a strong tension between the President William Ruto and Kalonzo about roads in Kitui County.
Kalonzo said that despite being in government for 40 years, he has never built a road leading to his home in Tseikuru, Mwingi North.
The President questioned how Kalonzo could develop Kenya when he had no effort to develop his region for all those years.
Kalonzo said he is not a selfish leader and does not regret starting many projects without giving priority to his personal areas.
“I would like to tell Ruto and his allies that there is a proverb that says children eat last, and I believe that eventually the paved road will reach Tseikuru,” he said.
Kalonzo revealed that when he was the vice president, former Ministry of Roads, Engineer Michael Kamau, wanted to build 21 kilometers of Tseikuru-Kyuso road, but he refused and insisted that it be built from Mwingi to Kamuongo.
“Leaders should show justice, not selfishness. I rejected that road because I am not a selfish person. I wanted the Mwingi-Kyuso-Garissa road to be built first,” he said.
Kalonzo mentioned the water project from Kiambere to Mwingi town, which has helped many residents, as the fruit of his efforts.
He said President Ruto is now attacking him after identifying him as the best opposition leader who can defeat him in the 2027 election.
He claimed that the president has been favoring himself by directing many projects to his home area.
2. The Standard
The newspaper The Standard reported on the growing divisions between the government and the ODM party, with ODM accused of demanding too much from President William Ruto.
The new push by ODM leaders to demand more positions in government as a condition to support the president in the 2027 election has raised internal tension in the Nyanza region.
ODM national chairman, Gladys Wangaand the party’s deputy leader, Godfrey Osotsi, said the existing positions are not enough and insisted the party deserves a wider representation before promising to support Ruto.
However, the allegations revealed divisions among ODM’s top leaders. The Director of the Government Implementation Unit for Nyanza and West, Silvance Osele, asked party leaders to stop setting conditions.
Osele said President Ruto has already appointed leaders of the Luo community to important positions, including himself John Mbadi in the National Treasury, Opiyo Wandayi in the Ministry of Energy, and Raymond Omollo as Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Security.
Osele criticized those who are being influenced or fighting for the position of deputy president, explaining that it is largely just a position of honor compared to the position of the National Treasury, which oversees the government’s finances.
“Let’s not act like people who don’t know what they want,” he said.
The Minister of National Treasury, John Mbadi, also asked ODM leaders to avoid imposing conditions on President Ruto, saying:
“The 2027 race is already over. We will support him. The discussion is now about 2032.”
