kissKenya: One person has been confirmed dead after a stampede occurred when people were running for food at Governor Paul Otuoma’s residence.
Otuoma had organized a gift distribution session at his home and invited his beloved residents to participate, but instead of people going to celebrate, they are now mourning.
This incident happened when people were rushing to the governor’s residence for food.
According to a witness who was at the residence, he was on his way to the scene when he passed his neighbor, who had sold his land, passing by on a motorcycle.
“JMy Iranian decided to stay behind because he knows how people with disabilities are picked up from behind, we went to stand near the gate and saw the crowd of people continuing to pour in, there was no way to get out from behind where they were coming from, when the gate was opened, bad violence happened,” he said.
“I fought to let the woman pass and I hurt my hand in the process; the police came and helped me remove it. That’s when I knew that my neighbor was in trouble, and when I went to see him I found that he couldn’t breathe, I called his daughter who was sitting somewhere else, she was taken to the hospital. That’s when I found out that she had died.” he added.
According to the grieving woman, she is still searching for the little child who was with her.
“We are asking the government to help us in this disaster; if we had known something like this would happen, we would not have even set our foot there.”
