The journalist was buried on Friday, December 19, in Awasi, County Poisonousafter collapsing and dying on December 7.
The funeral was attended by several political leaders, including the Siaya Senator, Oburu Oginga.
What happened at Festus Amimo’s funeral?
During the funeral, Amimo’s mother publicly assured her son-in-law, Rosie, that she has no intention of fighting with him over her late son’s property.
She recalled her painful history, explaining how she was left with nothing after her brothers took everything following her husband’s death.
He said that incident made him determined to protect Rosie and maintain peace in the family.
The grieving mother congratulated Rosie for standing by Amimo and taking care of the family, saying that her relationship with her son-in-law will only be broken by death.
Oburu Oginga offered condolences to to remember the late journalist by highlighting their long friendship and professional collaboration.
He explained that his attendance at the funeral was not only because of political duty, but because Amimo was often looking to him for professional advice.
As a gesture of support, the senator offered financial assistance to Amimo’s widow to help her cope with life after her husband’s funeral, noting that she was pregnant.
He also promised to help Amimo’s mother.
After the service, it was time to say goodbye. Photos shared online showed a moment of silence and sadness as Amimo’s loved ones gathered around the grave to bid him farewell.
Amimo’s son carried a cross with the inscription: “Forever loved.”

The body, wrapped in a blue cloth, was taken out of the hearse at his residence.
It was then placed in a tiled tomb, with a cross at the head. The priest performed the last rites.
The cloth covering the casket was not removed, and had a picture of a hand holding a microphone, a tribute to his work as a radio journalist.

The grave was covered with mothballs ready for cement to be poured, while his loved ones placed flowers on it.
Emotions were strong as many mourners, including his daughter, could not stop crying.

In other news, the Member of Parliament for Ugenya, David Ochieng’, honored Amimo for sponsoring the construction of the lion cultural for his son, according to the traditions of the community.
He also helped build a well-finished mausoleum to give Amimo the respect he deserved on his final journey.
