What did the elders of Tiriki say?
On December 18, a group of Tiriki elders traveled from the village and mourned him in the traditional way.
“Jirongo, you left home to find a living for your family, and unfortunately things went wrong for you,” said the leader of the group.
“We don’t know what to say, but we as the people of Tiriki say that if someone took you out of here and went to throw your body there, let the sun see him,” said the old man.
On the other hand, the elders had gentle words if Jirongo’s death was normal.
“If you went there of your own free will, let the house be quiet,” they said.
The group walked to the house, and when they entered, they repeated the same words and prayers.
“If someone had a hand in his death, let the sun see him; but if you left of your own free will, let the house be quiet and peaceful,” he said.
“May all those who enter this compound be blessed and have peace. The woman who enters this house be blessed and have peace. The woman should take care of the compound, and may the sun see her. As a Mtiriki we have said so, and as a Mukhovhe we have said so, so be it,” he added.

Edwin Avumba Egesa:If they were really paying attention to their traditions, they would be wearing traditional clothes; what traditional old man wears a suit?”

Sandagi Joseph: “And these Islamic hats and those in the color of the church are badass.”
Irine Mudasia: “Damn them; if he left himself, it’s fine, but if there was someone behind this, let him go too.”

Francis Shem: “This is Balaam in the Bible. Even God knows what Balaam can do naturally. Before that day, if you know your hand is in this, come forward. This is not a joke, it is true. He will not show mercy to anyone or anything. These people are known. This is now the first attempt in Kenya, believe me.”
