Speaking in a recent interview at Jirongo’s home, Omari recalled meeting the former MP in the early 1990s and early 2000s.

He noted that Jirongo’s wife was a classmate at the University of Nairobi, where Jirongo often visited.

“Cyrus was my client. I have defended him from the Chief Court to the Supreme Court. He was more than a client to me; he was a friend,” said Omar.

Was Jirongo opening a case in court before his death?

The lawyer revealed that shortly before the road accident that decided Jirongo’s life, the former member of parliament had instructed him to file a case in court, plans which were suddenly interrupted by his unexpected death.

“Surprisingly, on the Thursday before he died, he came and gave me instructions at Fairview Hotel. We were expected to open the documents in court on Monday. I went to Mombasa and worked on the documents, but to my surprise, I was informed that he had died,” Omar said.

Omari remembered Jirongo as a man of strong faith who knew how to laugh even in times of trial.

He described him as a man who devoted himself to what he believed in, stood by his political principles, and remained upright.

He said the family was going through a very difficult time, especially Jirongo’s wife and children.

Omari congratulated one of his wives, Anne, showing confidence that she will continue to hold the family together.

The lawyer urged Kenyans not to spread rumors about Jirongo’s death, urging the public to allow the relevant investigation agencies to do their work.

He also urged them not to taint the death of the former member of parliament for political gain, noting that such actions do not help the grieving family.

“My request to everyone is to let the family mourn in silence. Respect the family of the deceased, and give the organizations empowered by the Constitution a chance to do their work in relation to the issues that occurred,” Omar said.

He added that bloggers should not spread wrong information to gain perspective, saying they do not understand the pain of losing a loved one.

Omari’s colleague, Cliff Ombeta, also remembered Jirongo as a dignified, free-spirited, and helpful person who could not be manipulated or intimidated.

“The family should be left to cry. This time they need peace and shoulders to lean on. Politicians may want to take advantage of this situation and say anything, but they should have a human heart to recognize that people are in grief and let them cry,” Ombeta said.
