Jirongo, a powerful politician during the era of the late former president Daniel Arap Moidied in a fatal road accident in Naivasha on Saturday, December 13, while on his way to Nairobi, according to a police report.

However, his close associates and family have dismissed the reports, questioning how Jirongo—who was at a meeting in Karen, Nairobi, a few minutes before midnight—could have met with an accident in Naivasha, a town not between Karen and his home in Gigiri, where he was supposed to go.

What did the witnesses say about Jirongo’s death?

In between the questions, the witnesses narrated the events that led to the tragic death.

A security guard at the gas station where Jirongo reportedly entered without fuel, narrated how the politician entered before joining the Nairobi route.

A few minutes later, he collided head-on with a Climax bus that was traveling to kiss and thrown several meters away.

His account was backed up by CCTV footage taken by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

Another witness, a boda boda driver, claimed that he saw Jirongo dropping off a woman before the accident happened.

He claimed that he also dropped off a passenger at that place and saw the late member of parliament talking briefly with the woman before parting ways.

In another account, it was claimed that the woman’s belongings were found in Jirongo’s car.

Why did Orwoba accuse the government of promoting Jirongo’s death as a scandal?

Despite the allegations, former senator-designate Gloria Orwoba dismissed the allegations, insisting that Jirongo lived his life openly.

Orwoba accused the government of making Jirongo’s death look like a scandal while the investigation continues and the great grief his family and friends are experiencing.

“The most surprising thing is what is happening—an honorable man being smeared with mud. CJ lived his life openly and fully. He was the most honest and open politician. He was very honest. I believe it is the government that makes his death look like a scandal, this narrative of being seen degrading a woman somewhere. That is the saddest thing,” he claimed.

He noted that he was shocked to hear about Jirongo’s death, as he had held several meetings with him about different activities. Orwoba urged Kenyans to put politics aside and sympathize with the bereaved family.

“He always encouraged me to speak. He was not afraid. His truth cost him! It is very dangerous for someone to speak the truth in this country,” he said.

He also confirmed that he would announce his return to politics in January.

“I will come back with a bang. I believe God is not anyone’s son-in-law,” he said.

What injuries did Cyrus Jirongo get?

Elsewhere, Vihiga senator George Khaniri, who helped load Jirongo’s body into the hearse, disclosed that the former MP sustained serious injuries after the accident.
