William Ruto Urges ODM To Organize Before 2027: “We Will Form Government Together”

President William Ruto has called on ODM to put things in order before the 2027 general election. Since the death of its long-time leader, Raila Odingadivisions within the party have become evident, with different factions pulling each other in different directions.

Why is ODM divided?

The main problem is support Ruto for his 2027 election or not. Speaking in Migori, where he attended the fifth edition of the Piny Luo Festival, the president noted that a stronger ODM will help in forming a strong government.

Pointing out the possibility of an alliance with the Orange party before the 2027 elections, Ruto said that if Oburu Oginga’s group plans strategies, he will also do so and UDA and create a stable political side.

Trying to attract ODM members, the president said that the party will form the next government as an equal partner with the UDA.

“That is why I say that the ODM party must organize itself and be stable. We need a strong ODM so that we can plan together about the leadership and development of our country. Plan and make sure that the party is strong and stable. If that is the case, I will also organize the UDA to be strong, so that when we are strong, we can form a government by consensus.”

How Ruto remembered Raila Odinga

Ruto mentioned Raila’s name in his call to ODM, noting that the late leader led the party with stability and a firm position.

He thanked Raila for his contribution to his political journey and electoral success, noting that the former ODM leader contributed a lot to his journey.

“I used to be a member of ODM in the past, but God planned for me to go a different way before rejoining ODM. Raila Odinga taught us politics. I was the first student in his political school. Even in the presidency, he has contributed a lot to my election,” Ruto said.

How did Ruto convince them to strengthen ODM?

Speaking during Raila’s funeral on October 19, the president assured ODM of the government’s support after losing its long-time leader, stressing the importance of the party in shaping Kenya’s future administration.

He warned against local groups trying to undermine the partnership between ODM and the government.

Honoring Raila’s legacy, the president vowed to prevent opponents from hijacking the party and turning it into an opposition force, showing his influence within the Orange movement.

He noted that Raila built the largest political party in Kenya, stressing that his vision should not be lost for reasons of personal interest.

Raila died on October 15 at the age of 80.
