Migori: The leader of the ODM party, Oburu Oginga, has caused confusion after reprimanding the President William Ruto in Dholuo language during the fifth Piny Luo Festival.

Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday, December 17, Oburu used the opportunity to highlight the challenges facing fishermen in Lake Victoria, calling for urgent measures to prevent the arrest of fishermen from Migori and Homa Bay.
What did Oburu say to William Ruto?
Oburu, who is also a Siaya senator, claimed that fishermen are often arrested and harassed Tanzania after being arrested.
“President, I would like to ask you to look at the situation of our fishermen. Many lose their lives in the lake due to insecurity. Others are arrested and taken to Tanzania, where they are abused. We need diplomacy to work to stop these arrests. The lake is ours, and we can work together. Migori is home to Suba and Kuria, who live as one people,” he said.

Furthermore, he praised Ruto for attending the festival and bringing development and unity to the county.
“We thank you and we welcome you. Do you also welcome him?” Oburu said.

On his part, Ruto greeted residents at Dholuo before repeating his agenda of unity and cooperation with the late Prime Minister Raila Odingarecalling their promise to work together before his sudden death in India on October 15.
What did President William Ruto promise to the residents of Migori?
Ruto announced several promises aimed at transforming Migori through economic and infrastructure development.
“Our father, Raila Odinga, left us a message to walk together. We agreed on two things: development and leadership. That’s why I came here as a friend and leader of this country. Compromise must end. We want Migori to be fully integrated with Kenya’s national development agenda,” said Ruto.
He announced the construction of a jetty in Muhuru Bay, as well as major road projects and a modern market. The President revealed that KSh 1.7 billion has been planned for the construction of roads in Migori from January 2026, including the Masara-Muhuru Bay Road.

He added that KSh 350 million has been reserved for the construction of the modern Muhuru Bay market, one of the 27 markets planned nationally.
“Our women must do business in clean and safe areas with access to water and electricity. That is how we will build our nation together,” he said.
Ruto also confirmed that a contractor has been identified for the Muhuru Bay jetty, which will be ready within eight months.
He promised that Nyatike will be the beginning of change in the county.
