Larry Madowo Allia, Says Uganda’s Tear Bombs Are Very Bad Things

The rival camps of President Yoweri Museveni and former Member of Parliament Bobi Wine, popularly known as Robert Kyagulanyi, have been engaged in a fierce political battle.

What happened at Bobi Wine’s campaign meeting?

Bobi Wine has repeatedly claimed that the authorities, including the police and the military, are being sent to disrupt his campaign rallies.

In many of his meetings, law enforcement agencies have reportedly used tear gas to disperse crowds.

CNN International Correspondent, Larry Madowowho has been reporting on the election, shared a detailed account of one of Bobi Wine’s meetings, showing the power of the tear gas that was sent.

“I have been tear gassed a lot in the last two years, but the chemical in Uganda was bad! Even the police were suffering around me. Look at the army of security officers around us. Let me tell you, Maina, I thought I was dying!” Madowo said in a Facebook post.

In the video he shared, armed officers were seen struggling to escape clouds of tear gas, covering their eyes, as violence continued around them.

“It has been a very chaotic scene, and this happens at every Bobi Wine campaign rally,” with the sounds of tear gas and live gunfire ringing out on the ground,” Madowo added.

Social media users are commenting on Larry Madowo being teargassed

Madowo’s photos and comments have caused a stir on social media, with many social media commentators comparing the events to protest of the past in Kenya, when tear gas was widely used against protesters.

Last week, Larry became a hot topic after reporting on the violence that occurred during the election Tanzania.

He aired an article on CNN highlighting the claims of multiple deaths, which caused controversy.

Some critics claimed that he had been sponsored or paid to produce the report.

However, Larry strongly defended his journalistic integrity, saying that he was neither paid nor sponsored.

He advised the Tanzanian government to deal with and refute his claims with the truth, instead of misleading the public.
