The veteran news anchor is said to have collapsed and died; The sad news broke on the morning of Sunday, December 7.
Amimo built his own brand in the Luo community from his position as a presenter at Mayienga FM.

1. How did Festus Amimo become famous?
Amimo made a name for himself through his radio work. The 46-year-old joined the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) in 2004.
Originally he was Poisonous as an announcer for Luo Small Service before later moving to Nairobi. His teachings in his morning show on KBC’s Mayienga FM made him a favorite of many in the Luo community.
2. Was Festus Amimo a leader?
Amimo was not just an ordinary radio presenter. He was the head of Mayienga FM. So he led his team to provide services to people.
His colleagues cried to him with good words; a sign that Amimo was a servant leader who never undermined his subordinates.
Amimo’s leadership mantle did not stop at Mayienga FM. The veteran radio presenter was also the chairman of the Jofwambo Welfare Association (Luo journalists’ association).
He persuaded his fellow writers to join the union, explaining why unity is important for writers. The members of the party are still struggling to accept his sudden death and are wondering how they will fill the gap and leadership crisis that his death has caused.
3. How did Festus Amimo help those in need?
Amimo’s morning show was popular and reached a large audience in the Luo community.
The late radio host prepared his shows with great wisdom, making everyone feel welcome. During times of political tension, he united people, and often held leaders accountable.

4. How did Festus Amimo incite change?
Amimo was eager to support and promote potential talent through its platform.
He encouraged bright young people to pursue leadership roles. One artist, Nebulazz Nebulazz, recalled Amimo’s kind heart:
“In 2011, producer Cedo called and said we should meet at KBC at 3pm. When I arrived, I found Cedo working on the Mayienga FM beat because the launch was taking place in a week. He told me to go into the booth and record ‘Tuition Teacher.’ In less than 30 minutes, we were done. Festus Amimo came in, saw me in the hut, and was surprised to find me there, knowing I was from Kisumu. After hearing ‘Mwalimo wa Tuition,’ he was very happy, blessed the song, and immediately added me to the launch program of Mayienga FM in Kisumu at Bomas. He made sure I performed and got paid well,” Nebulazz shared.
5. Was Festus Amimo a family man?
Yes, Amimo was married to one wife, and together they had three children. His wife is also expecting their fourth child.

Odhiambo Otieno praises Festus Amimo with respect
As reported earlier, Odhiambo Brian Otieno was among those who were heartbroken when he heard the news of Amimo’s death.
Odhiambo revealed that Amimo was impressed by his speaking ability, which was good for politics, and wanted him to contest for a seat in Nairobi.
Odhiambo jokingly shared that the money he got from the program was the first significant amount that hit his account after a difficult period.
