Jirongo died in a road accident in Naivasha on Saturday, December 13, while he was reportedly on his way to Nairobi.

His death sparked a debate among leaders and ordinary citizens, many questioning the circumstances surrounding the accident.

What caused the death of Cyrus Jirongo?

An autopsy, conducted by three pathologists, confirmed that Jirongo died of blunt force trauma.

Joseph Ndung’u, a family pathologist, explained:

“We examined the body of the late Jirongo and discovered several injuries. There were two broken bones in the right hand, injuries to the lower lips and legs, a back injury with fractured thigh bones, rupture of the heart and major arteries, bleeding in the chest, an abdominal injury with liver damage, and a cut of the spinal cord in the thoracic region. From our investigation, we got the opinion that Jirongo died from an injury to the back, stomach and also an injury to the spinal cord from and hit with a blunt instrument.”

The accident occurred when Jirongo’s Mercedes-Benz collided with a Climax bus heading towards it kissbringing him several distances from the scene of the accident.

What did the witnesses say about Jirongo’s death?

After the sudden death of the former Lugari Member of Parliament, the driver of the Climax bus involved in the accident said that Jirongo swerved into his lane, which made the collision seem inevitable.

The accident happened a few minutes after Jirongo passed the gas station. The guard of the station said that Jirongo did not stop to refuel, but continued to drive at a moderate speed before entering the Nairobi lane, where he collided and was pushed aside.

One resident of the boda boda claimed that Jirongo had dropped off a woman a few minutes before the accident, while another witness who inspected the wrecked car claimed that the woman’s belongings were found inside the car.

Although the family disputed the initial police report, Vihiga senator George Khaniri noted that Jirongo was known to drive himself during evening outings but insisted that he never drove drunk.

He explained that the politician lived his life openly and honestly, and that his real behavior ultimately cost him his life.

Orwoba urged Kenyans to have compassion for the bereaved families, instead of spreading hatred against all politicians at the time of their deaths.
