Millions of money will be contested in the 2025 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The hosts will face Comoros in the first game on December 21 in a tournament that runs until January 18.
Ivory Coast will enter the tournament as the defending champions and will face competition from other countries such as NigeriaSenegal, Egypt and the hosts, who have not won the title since 1976.
AFCON has grown from a three-team competition since it was first played in 1957 to 24 teams participating in this year’s edition.
AFCON 2025 prize money
Prize money has also grown rapidly, with the winning team on January 18 expected to pocket millions in prize money.
The total amount of prizes offered is 32 million dollars (approximately KSh 4.1 billion), which will be distributed according to the distance the country reaches.
How much will AFCON 2025 winner get?
The winner will get 7 million dollars (903 million KSh) while the losers in the final will get 4 million dollars (516 million KSh).
For reaching the semi-finals, the team will receive 2.5 million US dollars (KSh 322 million), while the prize for reaching the quarter-finals is 1.3 million US dollars (KSh 167.7 million).
Round 16 will attract $800,000 (KSh 103.2 million). The teams that finish third and fourth in each group will walk away with $700,000 (KSh 90 million) and $500,000 (KSh 64 million), respectively.
“CAF has made great progress in the last two years in increasing the Prize Money for AFCON and all its other major tournaments. I am confident that part of the Prize Money will contribute to the promotion of football and also benefit all football stakeholders, as well as help our Member Associations in their governance,” said CAF President Patrice Mostepe before the 2023 edition.

List of banned items in AFCON 2025
Meanwhile, CAF has banned a list of items from AFCON 2025 ahead of the first game on Sunday, December 21.
The list is almost identical to the one used during the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Food, whistles and alcoholic beverages top the list of items that fans will not be allowed to bring into the stadiums.
