The family of the former Member of Parliament for Lugari, Cyrus Jirongo, has expressed deep sorrow at his home in the village following his sudden death in a road accident on the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway.

After his death on Saturday, December 13, several politicians and friends expressed their deep sorrow at his sudden loss.

How did politicians mourn Cyrus Jirongo?

Fred Gumo, a former minister, described Jirongo as a unique and generous person who gave wholeheartedly.

“There are deaths that are never expected. Cyrus was a very ambitious person. He was able to give everything he had. Cyrus lent money to many people who never paid him back,” he said.

“We are shocked to lose one of our own. None of us expected that we would lose our former Member of Parliament in a road accident,” said the Member of Parliament for Lugari, Nabii Nabwera.

“It is a very difficult time for us because we have lost our pillar. This was the leader of the Luhyas, the light of hope,” added another leader.

How did the family mourn Cyrus Jirongo?

His family from Shamakhokho said that Jirongo was the link of the whole family and that losing him is a big blow to the whole community.

“It’s a shock to the family. We didn’t expect this to happen in this festive season. We expected to be together as a family. He was a leader not only for the country but also for the family.

He was our father. We depended on him for everything. This is a big fallen tree. We are praying as a family. I am deeply saddened by the death of my father. He has done so much for our family. We don’t even know where to start,” familia added.

Jirongo, aged 64, was alone in the car when it collided with a Climax bus traveling from Nairobi to kiss in Karai area, Naivasha.

The veteran politician’s body was transferred to Lee Funeral Home while funeral arrangements are underway.

A video allegedly showing the scene of the Jirongo accident has emerged

After the accident, a video purported to show the scene of the incident went viral, leaving many saddened and calling for caution on the roads during the festive season.

In the video, many Kenyans were seen gathering at the scene of the accident trying to remove the body of the late politician from his badly damaged car.

The truck driver who allegedly recorded the video criticized the relevant transport association (sacco) for being frequently associated with road accidents.

Did Jirongo meet Moses Wetang’ula?

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, revealed that he was with the former Member of Parliament shortly before he was involved in a road accident.

According to Wetang’ula, Jirongo called him after the celebrations Heroes Day for a meeting in Karen.

Wetang’ula said the meeting lasted about an hour before he left for home, and later received information through social media that Jirongo had died.
